The Council of Ministers held on Wednesday the 13th of February, 2019, announced the redevelopment of the strategic area of the Marina Boulevard, towards the Palace of the Marina, from the Erevan roundabout to the crossroads of the National Lottery of Benin, in the Ganhi district on a linear 5.7 km. The government chose to redevelop this axis because of its strategic position and the fact that it serves several public administrations, foreign diplomatic missions, and public and private establishments. The construction work, which commenced in February 2019, has been carried out without interrupting the flow of traffic on this key highway.
That stretch of road will also be include the construction of sewerage and drainage works, urban development, landscaping, notably independence plaza, Amazons plaza, public spaces, and in tribute to the former president, General Mathieu KEREKOU, the transformation of his residence into a public urban garden called “Jardins de Mathieu”, and finally, a new memorial monument to the dead of the city of Cotonou.
