Restructuring the distribution system of the Beninese electric power company (PRESREDI)

Energy is a priority sector in Benin for AFD, which is already involved in two projects with SBEE: an electricity network extension and rehabilitation project in the Atlantic Department and a 25 MW solar power plant project. The PRESREDI project is therefore in line with AFD’s ongoing activities in Benin and receives significant support from the Beninese government, which has made the recovery of SBEE and the modernization of its distribution networks one of its top priorities for the sector. Co-financed with the African Development Bank (AfDB), this project will operationalize the framework agreement that was signed with the latter in 2015, by setting up joint financing for which a very significant part of the appraisal and then supervision of the project is entrusted to the AfDB. The expected impact of such a project is the access of 212,000 new people to energy services and therefore the improvement of the quality of life and employment of many households, and finally the strengthening of the economic condition of the SBEE.
