Reducing gaps and increasing access to electricity in Benin (PEDER)

Even today, electricity remains inaccessible to a large part of the Beninese population, especially in peri-urban and rural areas. The low level of investment in electricity distribution infrastructure has resulted in low electrification rates and a decrease in the quality of electricity service. It is therefore essential for the country to be able to continue investing in the extension and densification of its electricity networks. The project for the extension and densification of electrical networks (PEDER) is designed to respond in large part to this problem by enabling the Société Béninoise d’Energie Electrique (SBEE) to increase the rate of access to electricity in 15 communes of Benin and thereby reduce the disparities in access between urban and rural areas. Thanks to PEDER, 700,000 people will see the quality of their energy service improved and more than 300 jobs will be created.
