In 2019, the government of President Patrice Talon has initiated the asphalting project. A project that aims to modernize the urban fabric and through the rehabilitation and development of the roadway in nine cities of the country namely Abomey, Abomey-Calavi, Bohicon, Cotonou, Lokossa, Natitingou, Parakou, Porto-Novo and Sèmè-Podji. This project aims to give a new face to these different Beninese cities. Phase 1 of the “asphalting” project allowed for the completion of 195 km of roads. This phase will consist of the construction of asphalt roads as well as paved roads, the installation of gutters, the installation of solar-powered street lights, safety signs, the development of green spaces and, finally, the re-fencing of schools, institutions and public centres located along the roads to be rehabilitated.
