PAPC: putting an end to flooding in Cotonou

The city of Cotonou is exposed to periodic flooding risks. Climate change and uncontrolled urbanization have contributed to an aggravation of the impacts of these floods. The aim of the Cotonou rainwater sanitation program (PAPC) is to significantly reduce the risk of flooding, improve the living conditions of the population, and ensure urban mobility during the rainy season. This is one of the flagship projects supported by the Beninese government and AFD. The PAPC plans to build drainage channels and retention basins throughout the city, particularly in the Ménontin and Agla districts located on the shores of Lake Nokoué. The overall objective of the program is to make a lasting contribution to poverty reduction by improving the living conditions of the population. The project will be carried out in parallel with those financed by other donors (World Bank, ADB, BOAD, EIB, and IDB) and which concern the other basins of the city.
